Today, Nathan helps manage a production team of around 100 people, ensuring customer requirements are met on time and to the highest quality standards, while balancing workflow and driving continuous improvement.
Nathan Powell: From apprentice to Production Planning Manager
The combination of on-the-job learning with a smaller amount of college work really suited my learning style and felt like a better option for me than taking a university route.
After winning the Make UK Regional Awards (South Region), Nathan went on to be named 'Engineering Apprentice: Rising Star' at the UK National Manufacturing Awards in London. This national recognition reflects his dedication and talent.
When starting his journey with bott, we quickly saw Nathan's potential and has had our full support on his career journey to become a highly respected manager.

Starting within the factory gave me important product knowledge and hands-on experience that I still use in my role today

Matthew Isaac: A decade of development with bott
“Starting in production taught me how things really get made and why designs need to be practical.”
Over Matthew’s time with bott, he developed strong problem-solving and communication skills, alongside an understanding of the manufacturing processes. He believes National Apprenticeship Week is important for showcasing apprenticeships as a credible and valuable career pathway, while demonstrating bott’s commitment to investing in people and future skills.
I wanted to earn while I learned and work in a hands-on manufacturing environment — an apprenticeship at bott offered exactly that.
