Multimatic Motorsports needed an extensive new workshop fit-out - here's how Bott helped.

Multimatic is a privately-held, global technology provider to the automotive industry. The company’s technology is embodied in the services it provides, the products it creates and the motorsport programmes it competes in. Bott was a partner of Multimatic Motorsports when it ran Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s assault on the FIA World Endurance Championship with the Ford GT, from 2016 to 2019.

Multimatic Motorsports Europe, led by George Howard-Chappell, recently relocated to brand new facilities at Arrow Park, Brackley. As Bott had previously kitted out the workshop for the Ford GT WEC programme at Greatworth Park, the company was approached by Multimatic Motorsports to provide solutions for the extensive new workshop fit-out plan.

The purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility comprises speciality workshop areas for the varying activities of the team’s engineers, mechanics and management. The first areas to be fully functional by July 2019, were the main Race Bays, Supplementary & Sub-Assembly Bays, Composites Area and the Electronics & Data Room, with a Machine Shop and Stores Area progressing later. It was essential that the main areas were up and running in time for the team to compete in the summer rounds of the British GT Championship, to fight for the GT4 title with the Ford Mustang GT4. The team also needed three mobile maintenance trolleys versatile enough to travel from the workshop to the pit garages on race days.

Multimatic Motorsports took advantage of Bott’s custom design & build service. This included on-site consultation, 2D/3D design proposals and full installation for the 29,000+ sq. ft. site. In order to advise on a properly planned workspace, Paul Maynard, Project Sales Manager at Bott - met up with Multimatic’s Mike Horn for a tour. Each workshop area had its own specific requirements, depending on the various activities performed by the team. With Mike’s input, Paul created bespoke solutions for the different areas, with configurations and layouts designed to improve both efficiency and productivity. Paul recommended Bott’s modular cubio range for its high-quality, reliability and the capacity to deliver in the most demanding situations. The workplace storage products aid fast retrieval, whilst reducing the risk of tool damage and loss of components, ensuring a tidy and safe working environment - essential for the world of motorsport.

As well as requiring high-performing products, Multimatic Motorsports was looking for stylish and smart solutions to compliment the aesthetics of the brand-new facility. From the race bays through to the electrical department, the team was supplied with a professional, contemporary and fully functional workspace, in time for the British GT Championship.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal at Multimatic Motorsports said:

We were delighted to be able to work with Bott again on the fit out of the new building. They did an excellent job for us at Greatworth Park and the work at Arrow Park for our new building is even better – a truly outstanding service of which all the team members are very proud.

Race Bays
  • Responsibilities: All car prep and build work and the team’s mechanics
  • Products: Cubio - selection of drawer units with various divider kits, cupboards, custom lino worktops, large storage cupboards

"Since moving to our new workshop, we have increased the length of the race bays to allow for more storage. The Bott cabinets and drawers are very versatile and can be used for a range of functions. A generic cabinet can be modified for a specific storage need, creating safe storage for valuable components.

The work surface is also good as it’s not too hard and therefore doesn’t damage delicate components whilst they are being worked on. We know there are issues sometimes with drawer locking with other brands, whereas the Bott kit delivers in demanding situations and does not have these problems.

The mobile cabinets allow us to work in a more flexible way, as they can be easily moved around the workshop. This means that tools and small parts are always close to hand, which helps us to keep organised and tidy". Jonathon Woodward - Chief Mechanic, Race Bays.

“We replicated the sub-assembly area from our previous workshop as we found the set up and design really worked well for us, plus we have a bay for each team member. The Bott cabinet set up has made everything easily accessible and promotes efficient organisation for the team. The worktop space allows for a screen, which we use to send build specs to the team so they can access it on screen and have it easily visible whilst in the process of assembly”. Mark Lever - Sub-Assembly.
