bott supports local Primary School with a range of hygiene solutions

Local to our UK manufacturing site in Bude, ‘Tregadillett Primary’ is a rural school on the outskirts of Launceston in Cornwall - providing education to approximately 200 children, across 7 classrooms. After temporary closure at the beginning of lockdown in March, the school re-opened to play a vital role in supporting the children of key workers. Like many schools, they faced the critical task of introducing new measures to provide a safe learning environment; by staggering break and arrival times, reconfiguring key areas and keeping on top of hygiene routines.

In preparation of all pupils returning safely in the Autumn and following recommendations from the Department for Education (DfE), the school have been implementing further processes. With a range of financial schemes now available from the Government, schools across the UK can utilise the Summer break to plan and improve their premises, for a full re-opening in September.

To support Tregadillett Primary School in adapting to the new Health & Safety guidelines, we have provided them with a versatile selection of hygiene solutions. Developed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the bott Care range can be used in a variety of workplaces, to help minimise the risk of transmitting coronavirus. The products are highly flexible & durable, with static or mobile options and a wide range of accessories to choose from. With the school currently running at reduced capacity and with the Summer holidays ahead, this was the perfect time to install and test the products.

Deputy Head, Jack Horwell commented:

With the guidance for schools clearly stating that children and adults should be washing their hands regularly, the bott sanitiser stations are perfect for use in our environment. They will help us to limit the spread of the virus, especially where social distancing is difficult to achieve. During the school day, cleaning opportunities need to be simple and not time consuming, so that the majority of time can be directed to learning.

Commenting on the new hygiene stations, one parent said:

Having cleaning points available at collection and drop off points makes it easy to clean our hands, when arriving or leaving the school site.

Mobile trolleys have been placed at the 3 entrances, offering sanitization for those entering the school as well as providing an easy access information point and reassurance for parents. To help reduce any disruption to learning time, wall-mounted care stations have been installed between each of the classrooms. The children can quickly wash their hands with no need to walk to a washroom, reducing any congestion in the toilet areas. As well as in the main reception, hygiene points can be found both outside and inside the canteen. This way, the children can wash their hands before queuing up for lunch and again before eating.

One of the main challenges for all education providers is for them to build these new routines into the school culture, whilst enabling younger children and those with complex needs to understand and follow them. To help get the kids engaged and involved in setting these new expectations, Jack set-up a poster competition to reinforce the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it!’ message. The winning designs are displayed on the hygiene points, serving as a constant reminder for the children.

When asked how the handwash stations are helping, one pupil said:

It's easy to wash our hands without going into the toilets now, there are places all over the school where I can use tissues and clean my hands!

Jack outlined some long-term potentials, post COVID-19:

We’ll continue to use the products as hygiene stations for as long as needed, but I’ve got some great ideas for their future use too. With the trolleys being mobile, we can easily move them around to different parts of the school, even out in the playground to store sports equipment, or to use as a scoreboard for example. We can convert them in all sorts of ways.

We’re proud to support the local community during these challenging times and wish the staff and pupils at Tregadillett Primary School the best of luck when they re-open in the Autumn term.
