| New Terex Fleet converted by Bott |
|
The new vehicles will be used by Terex to visit customers throughout the UK to provide essential maintenance and services. Bott has created a versatile working environment that will enable service engineers to complete tasks using their own resources in arduous conditions at remote sites. Terex has designed and manufactured off-highway earth moving equipment at its plant in Motherwell since 1950. The company recently decided to enhance its field service support fleet by adding 25 Mercedes Sprinter vans and six Ford Ranger utility vehicles. The installation of efficient, safe and secure in-vehicle workshop and storage equipment was a key part of the specification. The vehicles will visit customer sites - often off-road and in remote parts of the country - where they will operate as mobile workshops.Robert Davey, Commercial Director of Terex UK, says: “Terex UK sell and support the full range of heavy construction and mining equipment manufactured by Terex throughout the UK. We also sell and support the compact construction range in specific parts of the UK. The success of our customers’ businesses depends upon the up time provided by our equipment, and it is essential that we provide effective, timely support. All of our mobile engineers are trained and experienced technicians and we invest annually in order to update their training and skills. The provision of modern, well-equipped vehicles is therefore an essential element of the service we offer. Our engineers are able to carry tooling and consumable parts in a safe and efficient environment. The standard of these vehicles has significantly enhanced our ability to provide a class leading service to our UK customers.” Bott has converted a number of vehicles for Terex in the past. The latest contract was awarded after Terex representatives visited Bott’s new facility in Cumbernauld as part of a competitive tender. Terex was impressed by the overall package offered by Bott, especially its ability to manufacture and install racking and storage systems custom-built to a precise specification rather than simply using off-the-shelf components. The company also liked the fact that Bott was able to provide a full range of conversion and complementary services on the same site, something which was not possible at the previous facility. Each of the vehicles has been equipped with workbenches and storage facilities for tools and spare parts to create a highly efficient and well organised workspace. Service engineers will be able to work on items safely inside the vehicle while on site and have easy access to tools and components. Additional on-board facilities include lockers, hand-wash and skincare units, electrical power and lighting and a combined generator and welding system. The vehicles will enable Terex field service engineers to maintain equipment on site using their own resources. Special locks and alarms have been supplied by Bott to enhance security when the vehicle is unattended. All equipment is locked and secured when the vehicle is on the move for added safety and to help protect valuable items in transit. All of the work was undertaken at Bott’s new facility in Cumbernauld. Moving to a bigger site than the previous location in Falkirk means Bott can now offer a full range of services and accommodate more vehicles simultaneously. This ensures that it can provide a single source solution and fulfil larger contracts more quickly for its growing number of customers in Scotland and the north of England. The Cumbernauld depot now offers the same range of services as Bott’s main facility in Ashby, Leicestershire. “Our expanded capabilities in Scotland will enable us to offer commercial and public sector fleet customers a better service with faster turn around,” says David Thomson, general manager of Bott in Scotland. In-vehicle workshop and storage equipment manufactured by Bott is guaranteed for three years. It can be refurbished and reused in replacement vehicles to extend its useful life and spread the overall cost of ownership. |
