Bott recognises it has to play a role in the communities surrounding its sites.

As part of the corporate social responsibility policy, Bott supports voluntary and charitable work in local communities and encourages its employees to do the same. The following list outlines some recent community initiatives:

bott proudly supported twelve young students from Budehaven school who took part in the annual Dartmoor Ten Tors challenge 2008.

The event started from Okehampton camp at 7am on Saturday 10 May. There were three challenges - 35 miles, 45 miles and 55 miles.   In all, 400 teams from across the UK crossed the starting line for the gruelling 48-hour trek across the moor.

In spite of extremely hot weather conditions, four of the 45 mile team members survived to the finish, bringing home some of the biggest grins.

Having just reached the tenth Tor, the 35 mile team, however, were stopped by the Army as they had insufficient time left to reach the finish.  They only missed the cut – off by 9 minutes!

Although not all of the young students finished the event, they gave their absolute best and should be proud of their achievements.   Well done!

Sailability - Swarkestone Sailing Club
Sailability at Swarkestone Sailing Club

Located in reclaimed gravel pits between the Ashby Bott centre and the nearby city of Derby, Swarkestone sailing club is run by a small number of regular members who meet on Sundays for regular races.

In 2000 a small group of club members launched a project to increase usage of the lake by providing facilities and boats for disabled sailing. Bott was approached as a potential boat sponsor and was pleased to respond to such a worthwhile cause.

Swarkestone sailability is now one of the most successful disabled sailing centres in the UK and has a growing reputation. Bott sponsored 2 uncapsizable two person dinghies and produced modules for a high-stability high-level floating pontoon equipped with a personnel winch for hoisting sailors into boats.

On Wednesday afternoons from April to October, club members host disabled sailors from a variety of local groups, with often up to 60 participants.

For the past 10 years Bott has sponsored clothing and equipment for the mini and junior sections of the Bude Rugby Club. Many children have benefited from this financial input and have gone on to proudly represent their club in competitions and tournaments both within the county structure and also on tour. Others have gone on to represent the county, the south west and even national teams.

The current mini/junior section has thriving teams in every age group from under 7's to under 16's.

Neighbourhood policing prioritises issues identified by local people as those requiring addressing most in their area. Bott feels it is important to foster good relations between the community and the enforcement authorities and try to work with them to improve the quality of life in their area.

Bott was proud to sponsor locker room equipment for community policing activities.

Bude Hockey Club
Bude Hockey Club

Bude Hockey Club was formed in the late 1980s by a group of enthusiastic hockey players living in North Cornwall. The current club consists of 2 ladies teams and 2 men's teams, all of which play league hockey with notable success in the South West of England. The club also has a thriving junior section, which trains at the local comprehensive school.

When the second men's team was formed in 2006, Bott sponsored the team strip and goalkeeping equipment.  The club gained promotion in its first season with an almost unblemished record.
