bott invest £175k in greener and leaner paint shop
The new paint line, made by German firm Wagner is more efficient and environmentally friendly and will be used to coat Bott’s extensive range of storage and workplace solutions.
The plant will further improve the paint finish on Bott’s range of cupboards, shelving, workstations and mobile units, cut the amount of raw material used, reduce electricity consumption and lead to faster changes between paint colours.

Changes between colours used to take between three and four hours while the new equipment cuts that to just 15 minutes, allowing Bott to respond more quickly to customer requirements without disrupting production lines.

Andrew Poole, Bott’s Engineering Manager, said: “ Bott endeavours to be an environmentally and socially responsible company. Investing in this new paint plant is a win-win solution for us. It has improved efficiency, will help us meet customer demand more effectively, improve the paint finish and at the same time, help to reduce our carbon footprint.”

A key environmental benefit is a reduction in the amount of epoxy powder used. Around 98% of the powder is recovered through the plant’s effective extraction and recycling system.

Overall the plant also uses less compressed air and electricity; around 36Kw of electricity, 15% less than its predecessor.

The new SuperTech plant has six automatic moving paint guns and two manual paint guns. It is ergonomically designed to enhance operator comfort and reduce fatigue.

Safety at the factory will also improve with a new, hi-tech carbon-dioxide explosion protection system. The system works by detecting the ultra-violet signature of a spark, flooding the extraction and after filter with Carbon dioxide, all within a fraction of a second. The plant has 999 programmes to allow more enhanced coating of Bott’s wide product range, with paint application more closely linked to the dimensions of the component.

Dave Blurton at Wagner GmbH said: “Ensuring the quality of Bott’s finished components has been key in this design, and the new plant will maintain their reputation for tough, high quality, durable products. Alongside that, we’ve been able to supply equipment which will mean better and more responsive customer service, along with environmental benefits.”
