Fourteen employees have achieved an NVQ Level 2 in Business Improvement Techniques and another member of staff has recently graduated with a degree in Lean Manufacturing and Processing. The NVQ course, which staff participated in, is supported by the South West Manufacturing Advisory Service and was the first of its type to be delivered by Cornwall College. Training included visits to companies in different industries to enable students to gain an insight into different processes and techniques. All of the students who attended the course then completed projects in-house to gain their qualifications. |

In addition, Lean Manufacturing Supervisor, Scott Kirkum completed an FdA in Lean Manufacturing and Processing, which is approved by Plymouth University, at Cornwall College. Scott has been with the company for more than 20 years, beginning on the shopfloor and progressing to become the Lean Manufacturing Supervisor. He studied for his degree over three years. Production Resources Manager Simon Willshire says: “We have always placed a great deal of emphasis on training and encourage our employees to gain qualifications that will help them to progress in their careers. “As well as sponsoring NVQs we offer the opportunity for employees to take other external qualifications such as apprenticeships, which result in a Higher National Certificate. It is an important investment that benefits both the company and the individual employee who has the opportunity to progress within the company.” The employees who successfully completed the NVQ course were: William Brand, Mike Moore, Sue Mayer, Richard Jewell, Matthew Gill, Mike Alway, Pete Wallis, Bradley Hopgood, Daniel Creasey, David Heal, Len Lacey, Alan Snelson and Barry Rendle. |
